Val di Fassa in the Dolomites

Val di Fassa (Fassa Valley) stretches in the north part of Trentino. This stupendous valley offers enchanting places and environments that provide wonderful touristic, mountaineering, hiking and sports opportunities, both in the winter and in the summer. It is decorated by some among the most admired and celebrated mountains of the Dolomites. Here marvelous brook Torrente Avisio rises and it completely crosses the valley before diving on river Rio San Pellegrino, right in the center of wonderful Moena, the village that "looks" at valley Val di Fiemme. Some among the most relevant massifs of the Dolomites surround majestic this very beautiful valley: Mount Sella Range, Mount Catinaccio Range, Mount Marmolada Range and Mount Sassolungo Range, besides some non-typically-dolomitic mounts such as Mount Buffaure.

Val di Fassa is a place full of history. Proofs of human settlements date back to prehistory. Then, from the Bronze Age on, there are important and precious evidences of several cultures, Rhaetic and Roman, above all, before the Medieval ones. There are, then, copious testaments from World War One, since during that conflict valley Val di Fassa was exactly on the Italian-Austrian front line; the foxholes can still be visited through touristic itineraries like, for example, the one of the famous Ferrata delle Trincee.

The prevalent linguistic and cultural identity in Val di Fassa is Ladino (or Ladin); the valley’s Ladino name is Val de Fascia. This territory nurtures very interesting and evocative popular traditions; it treasures evocative fables and fairy tales, legends and marvelous popular stories tied to the very beautiful mountains that embellish this stupendous valley. Popular traditions here are very lively and they continually breathe through numerous events that, throughout the year, animate the picturesque villages of the valley offering the visitors many wonderful attractions.

Activities and sports in Val di Fassa

Val di Fassa can provide an endless number of possibilities with fantastic activities both in the summer and in the winter. Its ski resorts are part of the Dolomiti Superski, the world’s widest ski area. Canazei, Vigo di Fassa, Pera di Fassa, Alba, Pozza di Fassa, Campitello di Fassa… they are only some of the renowned and celebrated villages that can be found in this ski Paradise.

Marvelous environments welcome the enthusiasts of all the ski disciplines, downhill and cross country, on track and off-piste, including ski mountaineering, freeride and snowboard, besides snowshoes excursions. And then trekking, skating, mountain bike, canyoning and rafting besides, of course!, climbing on spectacular rock walls through the classic and sports vias and through the very beautiful vie ferrate of the Dolomites. During the summer ski-lifts and cable cars allow to reach the comfortable starting points for an endless number of excursions among very beautiful alpine lakes, evocative woods and majestic rock walls.
