Information about Passo Santner via ferrata

The path of the Passo Santner via ferrata starts on a wide rubble terrace stretching among clefts an cols following an articulated line that spots the easiest points in the climb. The first section is relatively easy but it gets harder and harder as the climb proceeds. The descent features a passage through an often iced gorge and through the last vertical wall that leads to Passo Santner. At its peak the path gives a marvelous and very wide view on the surrounding mountains and on the valleys of Alto Adige.

Passo Santner via ferrata in the Catinaccio (Rosengarten) is optimally equipped with ladders, rungs and metal wires.

The excursion starts from the Laurinio cable car station -by cottage Malga Frommer- that will take the hikers to Rifugio Fronza alle Coronelle. From the rifugio a nice trail will lead to the south-west side of Mount Catinaccio and to the attack of the via ferrata right by the rubble terrace. After reaching Passo Santner, at an elevation of 2741 meters, the descent starts on a nice trail that looks at the majestic Vajolet Towers. After passing the little lake and Rifugio Re Alberto, we will go down through the cleft that leads to Rifugio Vajolet, to Rifugio Preuss and to Conca del Gardeccia; crossing Passo delle Coronelle, then, we will get back to Rifugio Fronza.
