Information about Masarè via ferrata

The Masarè via ferrata in the Catinaccio Group climbs up the towers of Mount Roda di Vaèl with a marvelous itinerary that does not feature particular technical issues. Masarè via ferrata alternates transverse stretches of equipped trail and vertical sections yet always optimally equipped. At its peak it offers a spectacular view on Mount Sassolungo, on Mount Sella and on the whole Marmolada Range.

The Masarè via ferrata is equipped with brackets, metal wires and ladders. It features the crossing of some rock jumps, of a particularly exposed passage and of an incredibly scenic ledge. Many of the stretches of this via ferrata offer comfortable rock steps that assist the hikers during the climb.

The excursion starts from Passo di Costalunga, at an elevation of 1745 meters, in Val d'Ega by the parking lot of the bottom station of the chair lift to Rifugio Paolina. A very scenic trail leads to the Christomannos Monument, to Rifugio Roda di Vaèl and to the attack of the via ferrata. The approach takes about two hours and the same goes for the via ferrata itself. The descent takes place through a steep trail -equipped with a metal wire- that leads to Passo del Vajolon, to Rifugio Paolina and, eventually, to the starting point.
