The Kaiserjäger via ferrata that leads to the summit of Mount Col Ombert, at an elevation of 2670 meters, was set up during World War One by Kaiserjäger, a unit of the Austro-Hungaric Empire Army. Along the path remains of military posts are still visible. Marvelous and evocative landmarks accompany the hikers through the whole climb and from the summit the view on the surrounding peaks is priceless.

The Kaiserjäger via ferrata to Col Ombert is a particularly evocative climb. It is optimally equipped through its whole extension. It is not a very popular itinerary and it offers incredibly scenic and solitary environments. The via Ferrata Kaiserjäger features a 250 meters elevation gain; 920 meters for the whole excursion.

The Kaiserjäger via ferrata with is equipped with a constantly well taut metal wire. The first stretch of the path features difficult passages, sometimes slightly overhanging. Strong arms and a good climbing technique are needed for this track. The quality of the rock is not optimal; sometimes the surface is friable.

The approach starts from lodge Baita Ciampiè in the San Nicolò Valley. After reaching Rifugio Passo San Nicolò through a nice trail the hikers get to the attack of the via ferrata. The descent starts on a well trod trail until the col and then under the rocky walls of the south-east ridge. Through old war posts, then, we reach Passo Paschè and we head south to the climb trail.
