Traverse to Rifugio Sassopiatto from Col Rodella

The trekking to Sassopiatto (Plattkofel) is a scenic and solar excursion that proceeds by the main peaks of Mount Sassolungo and Mount Sassopiatto Ranges. It provides spectacular views that get lost among the pastures of the Alpe di Siusi and all the way to the ranges of Mount Scillar and Mount Catinaccio. From Campitello di Fassa the hikers will take the cable car to reach Col Rodella, starting point of the trekking excursion.

Information about the traverse to Rifugio Sassopiatto from Col Rodella

The traverse to Rifugio Sassopiatto from Col Rodella starts at the bottom station of the Col Rodella cable car in Campitello di Fassa. The hikers will go up to Col Rodella (2’440 meters) and to the namesake ski area.

From Col Rodella, they will go down a little on the ski track until Rifugio Friedrich August (2’298 meters). The path then enters trail number 557 that goes under the peaks of the Mount Sassolungo and Mount Sassopiatto ranges. After passing Rifugio Pertini (2’300 meters) and chalet Malga Sassopiatto, where the hikers can buy the renowned local cheeses, the path gets to the renovated Rifugio Sassopiatto (Plattkofel Hütte 2’300 meters) with its spectacular view on Mount Scillar and on the sweet meadows of the Alpe di Siusi.

Now on trail number 533 the path skirts Mount Ruf de Regna and it goes down to valley Val Duron and to Rifugio Micheluzzi (1’860 meters). The hikers will, then, go down towards chalet Baita Fraines and, eventually, to the village of Campitello di Fassa.
