Spectacular ski mountaineering and steep skiing excursion in Val di Fassa, in the Monzoni Vallaccia Range. This technical and complete hike features a nice and scenic climb through woods, evocative alpine cottages and snowy slopes. After reaching the steep, north facing coilour squeezed between Mount Punta Vallaccia and Mount Cima Undici we can enjoy the exciting ski descent.
The excursion starts from restaurant Soldanella, at an elevation of 1415 meters. We climb up to Val Monzoni until we reach Rifugio Vallaccia, at an elevation of 2275 meters. From there, following the ridge through a steep trail, we reach the summit from where the view is literally breath-talking. We go down towards Mount Cima Undici and then, with our seal skins on, back up heading to Forcella Vallaccia to reach the opening of the couloir through which we will ski down.
The descent route is beautiful and very scenic; it develops through the vertical walls of the couloir and it leads right by Bivacco Zeni. After an incredibly enjoyable skiing stretch through a very narrow canyon, we cross the quiet woods to go back to the starting point.
The ski mountaineering excursion to Punta Vallaccia features a 1300 meters elevation gain and loss. It requires good training and mastering of technical skills of ski mountaineering and is rated as OSA (Excellent Mountain Skier). Max downhill declivity is 45 degrees.
