Information about the off-piste skiing to Piz Boè in Val delle Fontane

We begin the off-piste skiing to Piz Boè by boarding the Sass Pordoi cable car taking us to Rifugio Maria at an elevation of 2950 meters, one of the most panoramic spots in the Dolomites. Once we reach the summit we negotiate a first warm-up descent along the couloir starting from Forcella Pordoi that takes us back to the start of the lift. Back up on top, we ski until we get to the bottom of the slope leading to the summit of Piz Boè.

Then we climb on foot with skis set on the backpack; we wear our crampons to reach the top, negotiating a few thrilling bolted stretches with fixed metal rope. We negotiate the off-piste along a spectacularly steep straight-down slope, zigzagging among surfacing rocks, tackling a long and technical couloir set between the faces, skiing down the wide slopes overlooking the town of Arabba.

The freeride ski excursion to Val delle Fontane in the Sella Range has an elevation loss of about 2400 meters in the off-piste skiing section and a gain about 350 meters on the climb. It requires good training and great technical skiing skills because of its BS (Good Skier) rating. Maximum incline is 45 degrees.
