Diedro Vinatzer climbing route is a very beautiful and scenic path developing through the high section of Mount Piz Ciavazes, along a well visible dihedron that dictates the climbing line. It is the most repeated via on this mountain, since all the other paths only go to ledge Cengia dei Camosci.
Only some stopping points are equipped with nails; the other -on spikes and hourglasses- need to be equipped during the climb. The itinerary is evocative, scenic and greatly satisfying and it needs to be faced in good physical conditions and alpine experience.
Diedro Vinatzer climbing route was opened by Luigi Rifesser and Gian Battista Vinatzer on July 1934.
It is a wonderful itinerary that features V+°(VI/A0) difficulties. A technical path with a very interesting development on good -yet not always optimally equipped- rock. The lengths are 8 that follow one another through a development 271 meters. From the start of the excursion it takes an hour to reach the attack while the via, that covers a 220 meter elevation gain, is usually done in four hours.
The descent starts going towards Mount Terza Torre del Sella from where the climbers will do the first of three rappels. Along the ridge, then, the descent goes towards Mount Seconda Torre del Sella and down to the grassy ledge under the side of the mountain. Backwards on the approaching path, then, the climbers will go back to the starting point.
