Catinaccio Trekking Traverse

Fantastic trekking excursion in "XXL size" that crosses all the Mount Catinaccio Range starting from Passo Costalunga and going all the way to valley Val Duron and to the village of Campitello.

Information about the Catinaccio trekking traverse

Catinaccio traverse - 1st day

The Catinaccio trekking traverse starts in the parking lot of the bottom station of the Paolina cable car, between lake Lago Carezza and Passo Costalunga. From there, through trails number 6 and 552 -both rather steep at times-, the hikers will resch Rifugio Paolina (2'125 meters). Now through trail number 539 the path traverses and it gets to the Christomannos Monument and it keeps going until chalet Baita Pederiva (2'280 meters), characteristic family-run rifugio.

On trail number 541, then, the path of the Catinaccio trekking traverse passes under the majestic walls of the Torre Finestra ("Window Tower") and of Mount Roda di Vael, before passing under a natural rock arch and going up to Passo Cigolade (2'552 meters). From there the hikers will enjoy a spectacular view on valley Val del Gardeccia.

From the pass the path goes down heading north through trail number 541 that almost touches the rocks of the east side of Mount Catinaccio (Rosengarten). After reaching Rifugio Vajolet (2'243 meters) the hikers will go up the valley through trail number 548 until Passo Principe (2'600 meters) and to the namesake rifugio where they will stay for the night.

Catinaccio traverse - 2nd day

The Catinaccio trekking tour resumes the morning after and it passes under the walls of Mount Catinaccio d’Antermoia that –with its 3'004 meters– is the highest peak in this mountainous range; the hikers will keep going up on trail number 548 and they will reach Passo Antermoia (2'770 meters).

From the pass, through trail number 578, the hikers will go down to valley Vai Duron and, after walking through the whole valley heading east on trail number 532, they will reach the village of Campitello di Fassa.

From Campitello di Fassa a bus will take everybody back to Passo Costalunga and to the starting point.

  • Participants Anyone over the age of 16, with any level of training and fitness, can participate in this experience.
