Placed in a wonderful and scenic position, at an elevation of 1’448 meters, between Mount Col Rodella and Mount Sassolungo, the village of Campitello di Fassa -Ciampedél in Ladin- is the most picturesque and renowned village of valley Val di Fassa; it’s a village full of history and traditions and it is one of the eighteen municipalities of the Ladin community, of which it is the “Capital” and whose heritage and customs it protects.
Its social structure is historically connected to its alpine origins and rich of local traditions and customs with evidences of the Langobardic domination. The village, throughout the year, is animated by celebrations and cultural events that enrich its touristic offer. Very interesting is Plan di Campitello, the mountain hamlet; it is an evocative ancient pastoral Ladin village subject to environmental protection.
The area that contains and surrounds Campitello di Fassa offers landscapes that are among the most evocative and spectacular of the entire Alps’ area; it is surrounded by spectacular peaks, evocative woods and green pastures and meadows. First and main touristic and mountaineering centre of the valley, Campitello di Fassa is surrounded by a wonderful crown of mountains: Mount Catinaccio Range, Mount Sella Range, Mount Marmolada Range and Mount Sassolungo. Starting from the mid 800s its wonderful position made Campitello become the starting point of most of the expeditions in the dolomitic ranges.
Campitello’s sports offer is amazingly rich and it can provide endless possibilities with fantastic activities both in the summer and in the winter.
From the center of Campitello there is the start of the beautiful Col Rodella–Belvedere ski area, part of the renowned Dolomiti Superski ski resort, one of the world’s largest ski areas. With ski-lifts and cable cars, in just a few minutes, from Campitello one can reach the ski tracks that from Passo Sella lead to valley Val Gardena, to valley Val Badia and to the Mount Marmolada area and that offer fantastic and unforgettable ski experiences to the enthusiasts of all the ski disciplines: miles of ski tracks of various lengths and difficulties, woods, slopes and couloirs for off-piste ski, spectacular ski tours to discover the Dolomites such as the renowned Sellaronda ski circuit that crosses four valleys and four dolomitic passes.
The wonderful environments that surround Campitello and all valley Val di Fassa offer the ski mountaineers and the snow-shoes walking enthusiasts the chance to make wonderful hikes through paths that develop within the characteristic dolomitic environment among cols, couloirs, rock walls, wide slopes and fir and larch forests. Paths of great satisfaction among majestic peaks and unforgettable landscapes, immersed in an immaculate nature, far from the crowded ski tracks.
And then ice climbing, Fat Bike hikes through snowy trails, hang-glide and paraglider flights and ice skating.
During the summer there are endless activities that can be done immersed in the most authentic nature. Walks on the bottom of the valley, very beautiful trekking hikes or mountain bike excursions among crystal clear alpine lakes, evocative woods and green meadows, surrounded by the evocative and enchanting shapes of the dolomitic rocky walls with their thousands of colours, far from the every day chaotic life.
For the “vertical lovers” Campitello ofers the chance to climb the spectacular classic vias that made the mountaineering history, the new sports climbing vias or the very beautiful dolomitic via ferratas.
The Ischia Sports Centre is the best equipped of all Val di Fassa and it also offers the tourists a sports climbing wall, an adventure park, some life paths, bicycle paths, a practice golf course and a horse-riding school.
