The Finanzieri via ferrata climbs up along the north-east side of Mount Colàc, taking place on slabs and dihedrals. The path leads to one of the best places from where one can admire the spectacular Marmolada Glacier and the majestic Sella Massif.

Information about the Finanzieri via ferrata

The Finanzieri via ferrata to Colàc in the Marmolada Group is a particularly demanding and technical path. The track is mostly covered using the metal wire as a handrail except for some short passages. The key point of the itinerary is a stretch where the climb is assisted with a series of metal brackets through a rather overhanging stretch.

The Finanzieri via ferrata to Mount Colàc features a 450 meter elevation gain (600 meters for the whole excursion). The ferrata is optimally equipped with metal wires and brackets.

The excursion starts from Alba di Canazei, from the parking lot of the Ciampac cable car. Walking or taking the cable car the hikers will reach the top station, right below Mount Colac. Through a short trail crossing a scree they will get to the attack of the via ferrata.

The descent starts crossing the summit ridge and it leads to the peak. Going down a steep, unstable couloir, then, the path will lead to an equipped ledge, to a col secured with wire and brackets and, eventually to another equipped couloir that leads to the foot of the overhanging east side of Mount Colàc. From the green underlying trail the path reaches col Forcia Neigra from where a very beautiful trail crosses the meadows and it leads to the top station of the Ciampac cable car. As an alternative, from Forcia Neigra one can reach Rifugio Contrin and go straight down to Alba through valley Val Contrin. This option offers a way more scenic path.

Participants Anyone over the age of 16, with an adequate level of training and fitness, can participate in this experience.
