Fantastic trekking that starts from the Village of Alba di Canazei heading to Passo San Nicolò before going down through the characteristic green meadows of valley Val San Nicolò reaching, eventually, the village of Pozza di Fassa.
The traverse, fom Alba di Canazei to Pozza di Fassa, offers a phenomenal landscape and environment diversity: from the flat clearings of valley Val Contrin to the grey rocks of the south side of Mount Marmolada that, with its 3'343 meters, is the highest peak in the Dolomites.
The excursion to Val Contrin and Val San Nicolò starts in the parking lot of the bottom station of the Ciampac cable car in Alba di Canazei. From there they will go up through trail number 602 -rather steep at times- all the way to Locia Contrin (1'736 meters).
The hikers will, now, enter wide valley Val Contrin and, following the Ruf de Contrin, they will reach Rifugio Contrin (2'016 meters). Through trail number 608 the path goes up to Pass San Nicolò (2'340 meters) and to the namesake rifugio. The hikers will, then, go down steeply through the south side -still on trail number 608- and they will reach the flat valley Val San Nicolò. From there they will go down through the whole valley passing under the Maerins ("twins" in Ladin) and they will reach the village of Pozza di Fassa. From Pozza a bus will take them back to Alba di Canazei.
