Spectacular excursion at altitude that reaches the summit of Mount Piz Boè where -at an elevation of 3'152 meters- there is hut Capanna Fassa, the highest rifugio in the Dolomites.
The hike starts going up from Passo Pordoi to col Forcella Pordoi through screes (steep in some stretches) before traversing and heading straight for the summit of Mount Piz Boè.
The last part is technical and it is equipped with a metal wire. This is a highly satisfying trekking excursion for those who love technical and exposed itineraries. From the summit the hikers will get a 360° view on all the main surrounding mountainous ranges.
The trekking to Mount Piz Boè in the Sella Massif starts at the parking lot of the bottom station of the cable car in Passo Pordoi (2'239 meters).
From the pass, through trail number 627 -that develops on a portion of the Alta Via delle Dolomiti n. 2-, the hikers will go up towards col Forcella Pordoi (2'848 meters). A little before reaching the rifugio, the hikers will cross a scree that gets steep in some stretches.
From the rifugio the path keeps going and it switches to trail number 638. Through a technical and exposed stretch (about 200 meters) the hikers will reach the summit of Mount Piz boè (3'152 meters) and Rifugio Capanna Fassa. From there they will enjoy a spectacular view on all the surrounding peak.
The descent takes place through the climb route.
