A spectacular alpine environment featuring green and flowering meadows, centennial trees and sharp dolomitic peaks make this hike a real world’s gem; this excursion is not demanding and everybody can do it.
The trekking to Rifugio Comici in the Sassolungo range starts from Passo Sella (2’180 meters), meeting point between valley Val Gardena and valley Val di Fassa and border between the Provinces of Bolzano and Trento.
The path starts entering the trail number 526 that crosses the Città dei Sassi (City of Stones). The environment is really unique; the hikers will go through a maze of hundreds of boulders used for rock climbing, before huge dolomitic walls like the renowned Mount Sassolungo.
After passing the City of Stones the hikers will get to the green Gardena meadows -that during the winter offer very famous ski tracks- and, eventually, to Rifugio Comici (2’154 meters) that offers a spectacular view on the Mount Sella Range.
This rifugio features a classic architecture on its external structure while it is very modern, yet respectful of the Ladin style, inside. The hikers can eat at the rifugio that offers, besides the typical local dishes, a gourmet cuisine as well; or they can have a nice picnic with mattresses and blankets that the rifugio provides for free.
The way back takes place through the climb route.
