Though this excursion is not particularly demanding, it takes place at high altitude; the hikers will walk at an elevation of 3’000 meters in a spectacular dolomitic environment that resembles a lunar landscape. This is a perfect hike for a first approach to the highest elevations of the Dolomites. The cable car will take the hikers to the Terrazza delle Dolomiti (Terrace of the Dolomites), starting point of the trekking excursion.
From Passo Pordoi the hikers will reach the Terrazza delle Dolomiti (Terrace of the Dolomites, 2’950 meters) with the cable car.
From the Sass Pordoi they can enjoy an incredible 360° view on all the surrounding peaks. The path goes down a little bit to reach Col Forcella Pordoi (2’848 meters) where the hikers will find the namesake rifugio. Now on trail number 627 (part of the Alta Via delle Dolomiti n. 2) they will walk at altitude. The path keeps going under Mount Piz Boè until it reaches Rifugio Boè (2’873 meters), located at the entrance of valley Val Mesdì.
The return takes place through the climb route until the cable car station. The hikers will, then, take the cable car to go back down to Passo Pordoi.
