The Via Soldà Conforto is one of the most popular and classic ascent in the Marmolada Range. It stretches on the south pillar of Mount Punta Penia that dominates Passo Ombretta from the south-west portion of the majestic south wall of Mount Marmolada. After passing an evocative and demanding crack in the rock and a cliff, it pops out towards the summit.
This is a very nice and exciting ascent. The first two sections feature a climb mostly developing on cracks connected together by short ramps. The final section, that starts on the second of the two evident ledges that engrave the pillar, crosses a large yellow dihedron. It was opened by Gino Soldà and Umberto Conforto on August 1936.
A demanding ascent (max difficulty 6°+) that, in 17 lengths, covers a 550 meter elevation gain and a development of 700 meters. It can be done in about 9/10 hours.
The descent takes 2 hours and it takes place through the Via Ferrata Ovest all the way to Col Marmolada and to Rifugio Contrin.
