The excursion starts from Malga Ciapela, by the camping area. Climbing towards Rifugio Falier, at an elevation of 2074 meters, we reach the wide plain with Malga Ombretta. Then, through a steeper stretch, we enter the spectacular Vallone d'Ombrettola. As we proceed through the valley surrounded by the magnificent summits of the Marmolada Range, we move close to Passo Ombrettola. Just before we reach it, with our skis on our back, we climb up the ridge and we reach the summit of Mount Sasso Vernale, at an elevation of 3058 meter, with an unbelievable view. The thrilling steep descent takes place through the ridge that comes down the east side of the mountain and then through the wide underlying slopes and back to the climb route.
The ski mountaineering excursion to Sasso Vernale, in the Marmolada - Cima Uomo Range, features a 1500 meters elevation gain and loss. It requires good training and mastering of technical skills of ski mountaineering and is rated as OSA (Excellent Mountain Skier). Maximum incline is 45 degrees.
