Classic and thrilling, the ski mountaineering excursion to Forcella del Sassolungo, at an elevation of 2683 meters, develops within a majestic environment with incredibly scenic glimpses to the surrounding mounts. The hike features a very pleasant climb and a long, motley and fun descent.
The excursion starts from Rifugio Passo Sella, at an elevation of 2180 meters. After following a trail through wavy slopes in mild declivity, the climb gets steeper and enters the coilour between Cinque Dita and Sassolungo, leeding us to Rifugio Demetz (2681 meters). A last stretch will get us to the saddle.
The wonderful ski descent develops in a very motley and evocative tour in the couloir of Sassolungo and then to Santa Cristina. We will, then, get back to Passo Sella taking the Dolomiti Superski ski-lift.
The ski mountaineering excursion to Sassolungo features a 500 meters elevation gain and a 1300 meters elevation loss. It requires good training and mastering of technical skills of ski mountaineering and is rated as BS (Good Skier). Maximum incline is 40 degrees.
