The wonderful ski mountaineering traverse within the Marmolada Range that leads to the summit of Mount La Banca features an extremely evocative, exciting and technical tour within a typical dolomite environment with peerless views. The very nice climb gets us ready for an exciting descent that often takes place on powder snow.

Information about the ski mountaineering traverse to Cima La Banca

The excursion starts from the parking lot by Rifugio Flora Alpina, at San Pellegrino Pass, at an elevation of 1818 meters. We climb up until Casoni di Valfredda and, making a wide loop, we reach the bottom of a steep slope right underneath Mount La Banca. With our skis on our back we climb a steep stretch heading to the summit until we reach a col facing the North side of the mountain. Through a last exposed stretch on the ridge, we reach the summit. The view is spectacular.

The ski descent starts, towards the tower of Sasso Piatto, through the opposite ridge. The following skiing stretch is exciting and it takes place through a very nice coilour leading to Valle Ombretta. Passed Malga Ombretta, we go down a last steep stretch. Then, a couple of possible options will lead us to the forest track and to Malga Ciapela.

The ski mountaineering traverse to Cima La Banca ends in Malga Ciapela, where we go back to the parking lot of the San Pellegrino Pass by taxi service, having completed an elevation gain and loss of 1000 meters. It requires good training and mastering of ski mountaineering technical skills because of the OSA (Excellent Mountain Skier) rating. Maximum incline is 45 degrees.
