The ski mountaineering excursion to Forcella del Dente, at an elevation of 2782 meters, is an extraordinary hike developing in the appealing and distinctive dolomite environment of Sassolungo. The tour features a demanding climb and a long, steep and very rewarding free-ride descent.
The ski mountaineering excursion starts from Passo Sella. The first stretch leads to the evident couloir arising between the side walls of Punta Grohmann and Mount Dente. The climb through this little coilour gets steeper, sometimes crampons are needed, and brings to the col.
The descent is thrilling and it develops within a beautiful and steep couloir squeezed between Torre Innerkofler and Dente del Sassolungo. Passed the couloir, we get to a wide valley where we can let our skis go. We can then go back to Passo Sella taking the Dolomiti Superski ski-lift.
The ski mountaineering excursion to Forcella del Dente features a 500 meters elevation gain and a 1200 meters elevation loss. It requires good training and mastering of technical skills of ski mountaineering and is rated as OSA (Excellent Mountain Skier). Max downhill declivity: 45 degrees.
