The Irma climbing route to Mount Piz Ciavazes is a wonderful itinerary that climbs up on the side of the mountain aside of Via della Rampa. It is a very interesting and technical path that develops among slabs, chimneys and dihedrons. This climb offers great satisfaction, particularly during its second part. The views that the climbers are exposed to are priceless, both during the climb and from the summit.
Eckehard Böhnel and Bepi Pellegrinon opened this spectacular climbing route on May 22nd 1964.
A technical, rational and very rewarding itinerary that, within a particularly scenic and evocative environment, climbs up through the side of Mount Piz Ciavazes. The climb is particularly motley and it develops on very good rock providing optimally equipped stopping points.
The itinerary, made of ten lengths, covers a 260 meter elevation gain on a 300 meter development. The Irma climbing route to Piz Ciavazes is usually done in four and a half hours while the attack is reached in fifteen minutes. The difficulties of this path are VI°/VI°+.
The descent crosses ledge Cengia dei Camosci and it features the crossing on hands and knees of a short tunnel; again on the ledge (at times very exposed but well equipped) the path features a descending climb (II°) or, as an alternative, a rappel.
