The Cinque Torri loop tour, in the Nuvolau Range, is an easy and historically important hike developing among beautiful towers and pinnacles, destination of hundreds of hikers every year. Evocative passages in the World War One Foxholes alternate with labyrinthine passages among the rocky needles.
The hike to Cinque Torri (Five Towers of Cortina) starts in the wide free parking lot of the Cinque Torri chair lift at Bai de Dones. With the chair lift the hikers will go up to Rifugio Scoiattoli (2255 meters). From there the Cinque Torri loop tour starts going up on trail number 425 and it passes through the World War One foxholes.
The hikers will, then, pass through the natural arch between Torre Quarta Alta and Torre Quarta Bassa ("High Fourth Tower" and "Low Fourth Tower"). They will now find themselves in the climbers' Paradise; every year a huge number of climbers go there to climb one of the many Dolomia pinnacles in a fantastic environment.
After reaching Rifugio Cinque Torri (2137 meters) under the south side of the Torre Grande (Big Tower), the hikers will go up on trail number 439 until Rifugio Scoiattoli, completing, then, the 360° loop tour of the Cinque Torri towers.
The hikers will go back to the parking lot taking the cable car or walking down.
N.B. it is possible to extend the Cinque Torri loop tour up to Mount Nuvolau. That would make the hike about two hours longer.
